Chasing Waterfalls – Day 0

The alarm went off bright and early at 06:00. I was painfully aware that compared what was to come the following day, this counted as a lie in. I had woken up briefly during the night shortly after online check in for the flight opened. I took care of this, and we managed to get seats together on both flights. They did tempt me though. I was offered a promotional upgrade for both premium economy and business. I was tempted by business class, but as we have a daytime flight, I decided to pass. I downloaded the mobile boarding passes and then went back to sleep.

When the alarm went off, I got up and packed the last odds and ends. I got showered and ready. I decided to go on the Air France website and download a PDF of the boarding passes as well. Then I headed out. I need to get an Uber anyway if I have an early shift on Sunday as I cannot get their early enough with public transport. It therefore was easy to take my luggage to work with me. Our office is really close to the airport and one of my colleagues had offered to drop me off at the airport hotel we were staying at after work.

When I got to the hotel, Graham was already there. I went to check in and then we headed up to the room. We had been upgraded to a premium room. This came with a free mini bar. We had some downtime and enjoyed a beer each. I read for a while. I still had not finished the book I had been working on all month. My new target for that was to get this done by the time we got on the plane to Toronto.

We had made an early dinner reservation for 17:45 at Firin, the Turkish restaurant at the hotel. We just had some water as we already had a beer each and there was some wine for a nightcap. Graham had Grilled Sucuk for his starter. This consisted of grilled beef sausage, cherry tomatoes, served with flatbread. He then had baked sea bass fillet with potatoes, mixed peppers, cherry tomatoes and olive oil. I tried the Turkish take on pizza, which is called pide. Mine came with three different cheeses, beef sausage and red chilli. I could not resist to pistachio baklava with vanilla ice cream. Everything was delicious.

After dinner, we headed back to the room. Graham had some wine and then got ready for bed. I read for a while and enjoyed my wine. At about 20:15, I got ready for my bed as well and I was asleep soon afterwards.
