We were awake after a good night’s sleep around 06:30. We got up and ready. I checked out the breakfast situation, and we were at the Windjammer shortly after they opened at 07:00. Graham had assorted fruit and oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar. I had a pear and a bowl of congee with chicken, scrambled eggs, soy sauce and sesame oil.
After breakfast, we quickly headed back to cabin, and I put my swimsuit and a cover up on. Then we headed up to the indoor pool. They offered aqua aerobics that morning. We still had a little bit of time until it was due to start. Graham headed straight into the pool and pronounced it to be bathtub temperature. I joined him and the temperature was lovely. We swam until the member of the sports team that was hosting the class appeared. Then we joined the class. She had a bit of a novel approach as she was giving out pool noodles. In some ways, this helped, but in other ways, it made things more difficult. Graham had passed on the pool noodle. The class had a really good turnout. We got a great workout. After the class, we had some hot tub time and then we got dried off. We went back to the cabin to get showered and changed. Then we headed to Sound Cellar for morning trivia.
Even after hot tub time and getting showered and changed, we still had some time to spare until the trivia started. I nipped next door to the Crown Loung to get some coffee. They have two fancy machines in there, but both of them were broken. They did however produce black coffee. I got two black coffees and added milk from a jug. Then I went back to join Graham.
Morning trivia was fiendishly difficult. We scored 75 out of 115. However, as the winning score was 90 with each question being worth 5 points, I was not too upset about this state of affairs. I was not quite so happy about the result of the next trivia. We headed up to the Schooner Bar, where Who In The World Am I was about to start. This not our strongest trivia event by any stretch, but we normally hold our own. However, that day we scored a measly 3 out of 15. The winning score was 13. I stayed on for the next trivia, which was Name That Tune Cartoons. Music trivia has never been our strength, but I was quite curious about this. Graham decided to get some fresh air instead. He made a wise decision. Most of the cartoons featured, I had not even heard about. I was pretty pleased that I got 4 out of 15. However, one team managed to get a perfect score.
After this trivia, I went to find Graham, and we went to the Windjammer for some lunch. Graham had beef and olive stew and some roast chicken with mashed potato and a bread roll with butter. I had some garlic bread, a cheeseburger patty, some macaroni cheese, fries and some beef and olive stew with rice. I fancied some made to order pasta, but the line for this was long. I did however spot some Philly cheesesteak. I decided to try this instead and this hit the spot. I had a red velvet pot, some pistachio pound cake and a coconut custard slice for dessert.
After lunch, we headed back to Sound Cellar for Flags Around the World trivia. Graham had some white wine, and I had a Tiger’s Tail mocktail, which consisted of lemon juice, coconut syrup, watermelon syrup, mint, club soda, strawberry and watermelon while we were waiting for the trivia to start. I had done some studying beforehand as we tend to get the same flags wrong every time. Unfortunately, none of the usual suspects did feature and the flags were all very obscure. We scored 30 out of 150, but one team got a perfect score.
After this we headed over to the Amber and Oak Pub for logo trivia. We still had some time before this was due to start, but this is just a small venue. Graham had a drink of the day, which was a Dark and Stormy. I had a limoncello and tonic. Because the venue is so small, they asked everybody to get into teams. We were joined by a couple who were also from the northwest of the UK and a father and daughter from Brisbane. Even working as a team did not save us. There were a hundred different logos on a sheet and most of them were specific to the USA. Some of them I recognised, but most I did not. This was the same for the rest of the team. We did not even tally up our score.
After the trivia, we went to the cabin to have a nap. I had set an alarm to be on the safe side, but we were awake just before the alarm went off. We got changed and then we headed downstairs to get some photos. It was dress your best night. When I looked at the photos, we had more backdrops than I had remembered doing. It was only a little later in the cruise that I realised that they had superimposed additional backdrops on the photos that they had taken.
Once we were done with the photos, we went down to Grande for dinner. The line was much shorter that day and it moved at lightning speed once they opened the doors. Everyone knew where they were going. Our serving team welcomed us. We had a glass of Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling each. The menu that evening was A Taste of France. Graham had a Cheese roll with butter and then the Escargot as an appetiser. He had the Steak au Poivre with asparagus and mashed potato for his main course. I started with an iceberg wedge and then had the Chicken Cordon Bleu with carrots, mashed potato and Parmesan Gruyère sauce. I could not resist the crème brûlée for dessert. We enjoyed our meals.
After dinner, we decided to give the Pesky Parrot a try. We both had a Wing Zinger, which is one of their frozen drinks. It consisted of Bacardi Superior Rum, pineapple, grapefruit sour, strawberry purée, and Red Bull Tropical. It was tasty and refreshing.
When we had finished our drinks, we headed up to the solarium. The captain had mentioned in his noon announcement that the chances would be good for a nice sunset. I sent Graham ahead and quickly stopped by the cabin to get my iPad. Then I joined Graham. He had found a round lounger. I read for a while until the sun started to go down. Once the sun had dipped below the horizon, I headed back to the cabin. Graham stayed upstairs a bit longer in the hope that there would be a secondary sunset. However, he came back just as I was about to go to bed. He got ready for bed while I read a chapter in my book and then we both settled down for the night.
